SCHOLARSHIPS

If you are a student who has lost a parent, sibling or care givers to homicide and are planning to pursue education or training after high school, we encourage you to apply for our scholarship.

About the Scholarship

The Sheilah A. Doyle Foundation provides financial support to students pursuing post-secondary education, including:

  • 4-year colleges and universities
  • Community colleges
  • Trade, vocational, and technical schools
  • Certification programs and career-focused training programs

Our goal is to support students as they take the next step toward building a stable, successful future.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Have lost a parent, sibling or care giver to homicide
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (proof required)
  • Be a high school senior or recent graduate planning to enroll in a post-secondary program
  • Have been accepted to an accredited college, university, trade, vocational, or certification program
  • Have a minimum high school 2.5 GPA (or equivalent)
  • Have participated in Camp Sheilah
  • Demonstrate financial need, personal resilience, and a commitment to their future

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed application form
  • Personal essay describing:
    • Their loss and personal journey
    • How this scholarship will impact their future
  • A photo of their deceased parent or guardian
  • Two letters of recommendation (non-family members)
  • Official high school transcript (sealed)
  • Copy of acceptance letter to an accredited program
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Copy of driver’s license or state ID

Additional Information

  • Finalists may be selected for an interview prior to award decisions
  • Scholarships are one-time awards
  • Award amounts are based on available funding, financial need, and applicant eligibility
  • Funds are paid directly to the educational institution or program
  • Scholarships must be used within one year of award or will be forfeited
  • Awards are typically announced in November  

Story Sharing (Optional but Encouraged)

As part of our mission to honor loved ones and build community, applicants may choose to share their story.

With written consent, a student’s essay and their parent’s photo may be featured on our website to help raise awareness and support others navigating similar loss.
